Go-getters get it on the 'get go'
and get goin'. Sayin': "This is it!"

Me, I'm holding back, hesitating.
I'm waiting. Asking: "Is this it?"

"This" is all nice.
Sure I like it.

Livin' in the land o' plenty
plenty to do,
plenty enough for all to have... something
More stuff? No thanks - that's plenty.

And it only gets better all the time!
"This is it!"
Perhaps the pinnacle of human civilization?
"This is it!"

I don't know.
Is "this" really it?
I'm not impressed.

Plenty is good!
Distribution of plenty, is better.
We're so many who want so much.
I find this whole arrangement wanting.
I don't want more stuff. I want out!
Out of this vicious cycle of... of this.

And there is a restlessness in human nature
To want change.
The aspiration to better yourself.
To struggle and achieve and not give up.
Nothing wrong with that, as a matter a fact:
"That's it", that's the spirit!

To want new thing.
To see the world, if but a part of it, with new eyes!
Venture outside of our comfort zones,
become adventurers!
Maybe travel far away and experience new strange things:
Then we might feel the thrill of being alive.
And meet people of different cultures, dance to music we never heard before, sample the flavours of the world, ah the food!

A lot of it is endangered and delicious.
And we love it.
Call it our "appetite for destruction".

The go-getters say:
"This is it!"
I get it, I really do!

You're right.
This could be it...
I'm not sure "that" [pointing at the go-getters] is though...

See,
I want all of us,
even our children and one day, their children to say:
"This is it!"
or, if they're hard to please like me to ask:
"Is this it?"

But if we do it like "that" [point]
It will be
"That was it!"
The pinnacle of human civilization...
And we missed it. Like:
Was that "it"?

No longer the land of plenty,
but the land of little.
That ain't it, friends:
that ain't shit.
