The Road to Tomorrow

The road to tomorrow
is cluttered with thoughts and
beads from yesterday

The road to tomorrow has been
considerably tough
sometimes down right hard

Littered with corpses
and a tarnished bar sinister coat of arms

Now I appreciate a house that is clean and
A roof over my head and socks that aren't too
care worn

My dad always said the University of Hard Knocks
was may be the best resourceful teacher
more potent perhaps than a fire and brimstone Sunday preacher

Some change jangling in my pocket
Wedding belles and heiresses with cascading curls
preen on southern terraces

The road to tomorrow begins with bread crumbs on the toaster that
look kind of cozy just now

"The road to tomorrow begins with bread crumbs on the toaster"

That's where it's at. The road perpetually beginns at the eternal NOW.
