His sable soul and sad subhuman mind
are known from simian features in his face
The litter evolution left behind
A far-from pale yet faded fallen race

But there he sits atop a throne of gold
His palace-court with fellow Nubians filled
To mock that glorious empire of old
whose structures none remember how to build

This happens when a greater race gives way
recedes to let its blood and culture fall
to darkness and illiterate decay
the hieroglyphs now mere pictures on the wall
