Unholy roots

We grew our roots on a knee deep patch of dirt. There was something unholy about burring summer toes into embracing ground. As if we were always meant to land on the patch. You expanded your greens, and I simply found somewhere safe to land as the wind changed direction.

I'd like to think I made you grow stronger, as you made me grow taller. A little greener, providing a little more air to my surroundings, taking the blow of the wind, the rays of the sun and soaking up the rain after a long fall.

I grew tall enough to see that there is a distance between us; thick skin enough to know it requires more than holding hands 5 meters deep; and strong enough to know that if the wind changes, I will still hold my ground.
