The lonely Titan

With slow, determined, heavy steps the Titan surged ahead. For aeons they’ve been on the move, walking with conviction, towards an undefined future. Up here you rarely meet people, let alone equals, most of the time you end up just talking to yourself.

Initially it was a quite an empty existence, filled with sadness and a feeling of lacking, yet over time it grew into a sensation of comfort and peace. At the end of the day, what does a titan care for anyway?

Step by step life continued, and with it an awareness of the world below began to grow.

Details start to emerge and with it a fascination and need to relate to the everyday things that seem so important to everyone else. Without really knowing why the Titan leans in and takes a closer look. Deep down there is a place where things are easier, simpler, filled with color and hope. It’s a world where life is a consequence not a decision, a world of pain and victims, where everyone is subject to the same damning consequences.

A world where no one is alone simply because they’re all participants in misery.

The Titan leans in even more, as if dipping its nose into the mirror. Feelings of relief and freedom surge across their spine as a place where things don’t make sense finally touch them and ignite something deeply consuming. After all this time spent moving forwards, towards something unknown and strange, there is a place that does not hurt and does not move.

Time stops, nothing changes, and feelings rule supreme.

Happiness, sadness, love, fear, anger, and passion. All of a sudden life is filled with chaos and in it some strange kind of purpose. A star is born deep inside the Titans heart filling every fiber of its body with warmth.

“Finally something different, something vibrant and interesting, something light and giving.”

As time goes by the little things become bigger and bigger, what once was insignificant begins to occupy the mind and own it. No longer tall and strong the Titan find themselves down on their knees, weak and exposed but somehow happy and relieved. It feels so good to be needed, to be miserable just like the rest of them, to be small and powerless.

The Titans face is now completely submerged, deep into the world below, smiling from ear to ear. Happiness and joy defines every breath, eyes closed and guard down. What was before is suppressed and forgotten. Nothing else matters except this feeling of peace and quiet. It’s so nice to finally be able to relax and know that there is a place to be.

“It’s so nice to just be like everyone else.”

Time continues, moving as it always does. Who knows how long it’s been, and who cares to be honest. Happiness grows as novelty fades, a strange background of unease begins to manifest:

...

Something is not right.

...

I can’t breathe.

...

Why can’t I breathe?

...

What did I do wrong?

...

I don’t understand.

...

I really can’t breathe.

...

Far far away a voice echoes:

...

“Time to wake up dear. Time to remember who you are, what you are, just how great you are.”

The Titan jolts, as if someone punched them firmly, and reluctantly begins to think again. A long forgotten presence makes itself known as feelings of pain and loneliness take hold yet again. The dream slowly starts falling apart and the world becomes a thing once more.

“No matter what was, you are who you are.”

From love a hand touches their shoulder; a reminder of what is. Firmly yet gently the Titan is pulled back out of the mirror despite their best attempts to stay. With a deep breath they look up and they see the sky. Gasping, spluttering, cursing, and fighting, they turn around with anger and fear: what the?! is your problem?! I was happy down there, finally happy and safe, how dare you take that away from me?

“Dreams come to an end, souls do not.”

There is something very human in wanting to belong, but You are more than that. We carry within us a human heart, however our minds and spirits are nothing short of divine. Everyone gets lost once in a while, that’s part of the journey, and is necessary to finally know where we are. What makes us different from the rest is that we cannot hide no matter our desire to do so.

I know that it’s a lonesome road, mostly spent with yourself and your thoughts. Being different is as much of a blessing as it is a curse; it gives you the power of sight and knowing, yet it condemns you to a life of awareness.

Just know this:
Your kin is all around you, sharing your journey and sharing your heart. We might not always be present but we’re forever there. As with all matters of the soul you won’t know until you need to, and even then you probably won’t believe it.

No matter how far down you go, you’re never away from us.
