Auburn Delight (When September turns to October)

When September turns to October
Autumn leaves are
Reaching up to eaves
What does the Magician have
Up his sly sleeve
Winds that whistle and howl
Branches that crack like they've
Been shot by a pistol
And out flys the owl
Turn and fire into forests of red
And gold
That I've loved since I was
Young and more now that
I am old
I can't help it
It's my favourite season
Do I need to come up with more
Important reasons

Sweet Indian Corn
Provides some texture
In my life
And in the center
Pumpkins the colour of bright
Orange
Cut into jack 'o' lanterns
For a Halloween fright
Riding bicycles at night on
Fresh wet leaves gives an
Eerie feel
In the darkness lit by streetlights
Softened by the season's
Bounty
On to hearth and home
I'm bound
The warmest in the County
Steaming cups of
Hot chocolate with marshmellows
That are plump and round
And snowy white then
To sleep and sweet dreams
All through this night
Warm under downy covers
Of cotton and wool
And awake in the morning
To by chance
Look out the
Window and glory
What a sight
A changing Sea
In russet tones of
Auburn delight...
