Gatta Bo, The Lawn-Mower & The Bells

This morning I am indebted
to the dark, smooth swell
of a power lawn-mower,
mumbling and humming
somewhere
in the near distance
behind series of tenement houses
laid low under the heavens;
the smooth brown swell of an engine,
rising and sinking
in the back of my mind,
my weariness resting
under a thin coat of acoustic paint,
where I lie like a ship,
secure and protected,
harboured and moored
behind apartment walls

Today I am indebted
to bodies dressed as they like,
treading town upright,
up and down, walking
this way and that,
in ever-changing patterns
across the town square
as I sit back comfortably
in the sun at eleven AM
outside Kumlins' coffee shop,
resting my mind

I am indebted today
to old acquaintance Gatta Bo
who steps out of a distant past,
joining me
at the coffee shop
in the sun
bringing forth a multitude
of lively bygones
out of culture layers well hidden
below a brand new now

and in my blessed, immortalized
atheism
I am indebted
to the church bells of the town
hitting it off at 12 noon,
filling all corners and crevasses
and all ears,
all bodies and corpses
with their metallic
overwhelmedness

and I am indebted
to my alliance
with science
and the shot
that I got
