A Tall Tale

I see eternity and Kuan-yin
in the eyes of an old cat,
gazing into mine,
Murray Perahia
playing the English Suites
downstairs,
on Spotify

I'm about to sip some coffee
and open Gary Snyder's A Place
in Space
where I folded it last night

I have to let go, let be

I have to go out,
feed the wood burner,
feed the horses in the pasture
at – 22 ° C

I have to accept
the average life expectancy
of a human being
and sort out my discernment
of consciousness

and I have to let go
before I can't

My awareness is a magnifying lens
toward the Cosmos
but it's the Veil of Maya as well

I do have to let go
before I can't
and I have to feed the birds flocking
this chilly morning

Gunwald Cat
is ancient wisdom
on my chest,
his steady gaze full of stars,
attuning me
to the timbres of Tao

I have to let go
before I cannot

The forces that drive us
across these years
are stronger than our concepts
of them
and all we can offer one another
is some consolation

Life is a tall tale
