Inspirerad av A Tryst (a meeting) by Celia Thaxter

Titanic

From the desolation of the North
an iceberg broke loose from its shelf,
drifted away on the sea.

It traveled calmly forth
at nature's command,
to migrate south,
leave behind a blurry trace.

Warmer waves gnawed
its crumbling base
and melted the iceberg's rails.

The sun made tears
down the icy face
and were emerged
by the salty sea.

In Southampton

elderings, women, children
stood by the Titanic's rail
and sent their farewells,

Titanic panted away,
followed by hurrays, confetti
made by caresses and hand kisses.

On the boat, the rich
filled their mouths
with caviar and drowned it
with champagne.

The poor, british emigrants
were tucked in below, crowded
with hopes.

Titanic bumped into the iceberg, spray
was swept over the ship's roofs.

People fighted for lifeboats,
"Save my child!"
was swallowed by the sea.

The orchestra's tunes, dancing feet,
the shrieks and the weep
bubbled up from the bottom
of the black sea.
