I recall the waterfall of your tears,
mingling with mine,
as I held your heart tightly,
trying to keep it from slipping away forever,
into the harsh reality.
At the altar, she said yes,
vowing to shield her heart from my kind of sorrow.
In return, you received my blessing,
like the very anti-hero.
When the clock struck twelve,
I vanished like Cinderella,
never to be seen again.
Years later, I see you holding your child,
as I smile, sheltered under my umbrella.
Our journey,
an adventure from start to finish,
has seen us grow together and apart,
all for the best,
for our weary hearts.
I still cling to your shadow,
now and then,
while you hold her,
surrounded by pillows and candles,
just as we once were.
Though it hurt,
the writings on the wall may have saved you and me.
The grass on the other side,
was probably very green.
I’m thankful,
for the glitter and the blue,
as you’re shaping new ones.
I find peace in saying,
I’m happy for you.
