Seen

I've seen the world
And heard its songs
I've sown the fields
And watched them grow
I've walked the line
Where meadows loom
Held the fragile bud
That waits to bloom
A scene as old as man
But what are we that dwell
In this garden set to wilt
Why do we love the beauty?
When we know it's meant to die
Fade from us like the flower
Clenched tightly in our hand
Oh, but there's no power
In the thing that does not rot
It lingers in a vacuum
The barren waste of time
Without purpose, place or ardor
Giving meaning to its life
Though love brings naught but pain
We cling to it without fault
For it's all that keeps us sane
On this lonely pale blue dot
