Being black is who I am, not who I’m trying to be
You can insult me by saying I am a wannabe "intellectual", darling, that will be ineffectual. You can classify me as "not like the stereotypical black girls, but the fact is I always opposed diamonds, my best friends are pearls. You can call me an oreo, coconut a white girl wannabe, honey, just like Carlton Banks being black is who I am not who I’m trying to be
You can ridicule me because I like classics, call me a wannabe "Bourgeois," but the truth is I like my movies, and my style is quite "French noir" You can tease me, call me the biggest phony, a Lola May... I adore breakfast at Tiffany's from that I won't stray
You can make fun of me, dear just, go ahead because I don't fit the stereotype of a black woman in your head. Ask yourself why you are so troubled that I am so comfortable in my own skin, you call me an oreo but I think you are the one who ought to look within.
I refuse to be a noble victim, that's not how I like to behave. I proudly call myself a descendant of humans, you still call yourself a slave. You can insult me by saying I am a wannabe "intellectual", darling, that will be ineffectual. You can call me whatever you like, my mission on this earth is not to be your "type"
I can be all of the things you say or far from that, a down-to-earth kinda gal or the feminine brat.
Here you go, you were asking for this self-portrait update, surprise, surprise I am still the type of woman you love to hate. You can insult me for enjoying my classics and exploring new wine, I think you are just bothered that I no longer cast pearls before swine.
