Lesson One: Every author deserves respect.
If I asked you to come up with a list of authors you really don’t like my bet is you could generate a substantial list in fairly short order. I know I can. Yet every single one of them put pen to paper, or fingers to keyboard, to not only write something from their heart, but had the courage to expose their prose to the ofttimes harsh glare of public scrutiny. That takes guts, grit, and determination, and for that they deserve your respect if not your accolades. Thus the advice so often seen on review sites and forum sticky posts – critique the work, not the author.
