Almost all skulls the surgeons opened
had a brain which surprised them
they had expected more empty ones
some were full of saw dust
and a few full of liquor

They were amazed that some brains
had shrunk and that the empty skull space
was filled with greed and stupidity

Before they closed the skulls they discussed
what to do with the empty ones
perhaps they should fill them with
something essential such as religion

Since the religion-filled skulls
they knew of had brought about
so many wars and misery in the world
they decided to fill them with ice cream
which seemed to them a better choice

They also agreed on filling the rest
with a mixture of chowder and gypsum
and a spoonful of common sense
hoping that this soup would
enhance the evolution of skull content

Then they closed the skulls carefully
and went to bed satisfied with
the accomplishments of their work
