written Summer, 2007 for Jack, Jerry, Allen, Ken, and Mountain Girl
Beneath the Night
Beneath the night
lies the day
un-trite culprits creep
along the side of an abandoned
wine press
where grace has been trampled
to pulp
time and again with
their grape stained feet
counter-intuitive rain drops
fall on non-duplicitous
day workers
wage workers
sage brush humanity
displaying their varietals
disingenuous juveniles
ride their mountain bikes like they
were Harleys
and rasta fans listen to Bob Marley
penny savers queue up on market days
right and proper
the wares placed in shelves
conspicuous consumption comes into play
and on the tables
stand crooked scales
leather cowboy hats and
turquoise snails
will anybody get an honest trade today?
tinkers steal looks at the passersby
who look back and
just wonders why?
30 k down the road
i may find the answer
to this riddle
i suppose
farewell to Marseilles
farewell to parking lots
asian myths trail lemurs
through the jungle
unique and desolate holy men
explain mysteries
down crimson trails
like charmed fairy tales
lucky Chinese checkers
sit on Parcheesi boards
waiting to be crowned
waiting,
waiting for another round
who will sort out this mess?
as the blindfolded mice
take yet another test
Beneath the night
lies the day
the apache kid
