What the weak-minded usually describe as "barbarism" usually comes without any knowledge of the inner workings and the hidden knowledge that are set in play:

So, you don't need to place "intellectual endeavors" on a back burner and be a fighter. Rather, it's demanded that you as a warrior will be the very highest intellectually and spiritually being as you possibly can be.

If anyone attacks honour as being "egoistical vanity and a pagan sin"; while it's clearly meant to defend self worth and upholding moral values and higher life itself; then educate them in any way that honourably seems fitting.

You can be the most intelligent and enriched being in the universe, but if you lack relevant knowledge like this then you are nothing.
