The parents

The mother told me what he was like;
the things he did and said to her..
It was all confirmed
by what I, myself, had seen and heard.
She told me how she hated him..
But she also told me I should not feel the same.
She wanted me to love him, she said..
She said it was her will
that I had a functioning relationship with him.
She demanded the impossible..
(And did not try to make it easier, either.)

When she sent me over there she told me
she was worried for my sake but I had to go;
\'cause if I didn\'t it would make everything
harder for her and for us all. He never hurt me
in the way she \"feared\" though..

(This is what she said, between the lines:
\"I am saving myself now but you were born
to be sacrificed.\")

When I was fifteen years old she told me
that IF she had to give up one of her kids
and could choose which one to lose
she would choose it to be me.. Because, she said,
she believed that I was strong enough to handle it.
Everything she said then was true, except the \"if\"..
And I am glad that she got her wish!
