Sharp warning issued in Sweden – keep your eyes open

The police are issuing a warning.

In several places in Sweden, community associations have been scammed.

The associations' premises have been booked to celebrate baptisms or birthday parties.

But behind the bookings lies another agenda.

Right-wing extremist groups with Nazi ideologies are holding meetings in community centers, DN reports.

Several cases have been reported around Sweden during the spring. Among them is in Sevalla outside Västerås, where the community association discovered at the last minute who wanted to rent the premises.

– I was shocked, but I am so glad that he discovered it, says Caroline P Johansson from the community association, to the newspaper.

Police warn

The police are now issuing a stark warning to village associations and similar activities around the country, who are urged to be vigilant and report if they come across anything similar.

The police are actively working to map out where extremist groups are active.

– There is a tangible danger of new recruitment and a radicalisation environment. We must try to stifle that, says the Police Authority's operational coordinator in Region Mitt, Anders Kellerth, to the newspaper.

Increasing

Activity within the racial ideological environment is increasing in Sweden, according to a survey by the anti-racist foundation Expo, reports SR.

But there are major differences within the far-right movement.

– We can see how the established far-right groups are having difficulty recruiting new activists and members. The increase is primarily thanks to a newly established group, says the foundation's CEO Daniel Poohl, to the radio.

The Armed Forces can be a risk

More and more extremists are applying to the Armed Forces, reports SVT.

The Swedish Defense is recruiting many new employees, which also opens the door for extremists, according to Expo.

A similar development has been seen in several other countries.

– There is a risk that this will happen in Sweden if you are not careful within the Armed Forces, perhaps especially in the Home Guard. Here there is an opportunity for people from the right-wing extremist environment who are interested in weapons, discipline and the military, to infiltrate the state, says Daniel Poohl, to the channel.
