The Hitchhiker

He's drives one evening
in heavy rain
the wipers throw it sideways.

By the roadside
he spots a woman
waving her hand,
soaking wet.

Her hair is smeared
by heavenly water
and she's armed by a suitcase.

He stops the car
and she drags it, herself and teardrops
into the backseat
“thanks for stopping”.

He turns on the left blinkers
and wheels out.

She was never seen again.
