Blues, man

Midnoon
stingin' heat
beads o' sweat
rollin' down my chin,
I sits in the shade
restin' them ol' bones
burnin' all the same.

This glow baby,
ain't no fire like it
world set ablaze,
mean dusty dog in these
dog days -
I've lost my bite
I've lost my roar,
dun remember your name -
Sadie Mae or
maybe Ivy Lou,
all I've gots is the way you'd moan
pinned between the wall
and I,
teeth grinding
the air around us hot,
so hot
thick,
the way my tongue would
stick
to your skin,

oh Lord!
how I have sinned...

Used to say
my baby dun need no
snake skin boots,
she gots
snake skin legs -
wrappin' them 'round my
neck
like 'round a prey -
my sweet, wicked
my Sadie Mae,
you have heard me pray Lord
from the midnight
'till the dawn,

oh Lord!
if this is hell, let it go on!

But them scorchin' days
now long gone
all that remains
on these dried lips
is a, silent praise and a
crooked smile
when I see her hips
sway
through this doggone heat.

I have lost my bite.
I have lost my roar.
And this mean dusty dog, Lord
wasn't so mean before.
