When you were conceived
you were gathered
into a decision, an outcome –
into your resurrection:
not from the dead,
but from everything!
You arose from everything
into a wretched rejoicing;
into a rejoicing wretchedness
You arose from everything
into a face
that surges & roars
around a cavity where saliva bursts forth
like water from the rock,
and now something is taking place at face level;
an expression of the day
on a centrally stimulated eating-&-shitting machine
with a shifting agenda,
hemmed in by the coast's vibrating steelworks,
bound hand & foot by the expressways'
double Davy knots;
caught in flight
You arose into the light of the eyes
and the rustling of leaves on the skin;
into rows of teeth that clatter
like horses' hooves,
like the clicking beaks of boreal owls
in the mist nets out on the archipelago islands
during bird-banding season
The resurrection seethes in the sea of people,
the breakers foaming in the autumn darkness
The light flows dark & pungent
as private planes drill down into the asphalt;
as the Vikings' death boats are launched,
burning across the waters
You arose from everything
into a wealth of detail & sly pinches;
into historical scores
and the swishing at Wollman Rink
in Central Park;
into the chess games beneath the foliage
in Yerevan's porous pink afterglow,
and the moment is thin & immense;
transparent & impenetrable
You have risen
into mortality & rising rents
