When did you start seeing the worst, when you knew the best of me?
When did you become the barbed wire, left ahead by my enemy?
When did your words become the taint that covered my effigy?
When did you start loving joy, less than you craved misery?
We could have picked stars from the skies together
we could have founded kindoms that would stand through any weather
And others would come and forfeit their glory and undue their stitches
Just to bathe in our radiance, to ravel in our riches
Loved ones would be abonded and told their good riddance
They would leave their lives behind and burn all their bridges
Time itself would heed our word and move as we commanded
The oceans would carry our ships and leave entire continents stranded
We would need nothing more than speak and the sun itself would have landed
And anyone who moves against us would find their armies disbanded
But as you have done, throughout all the ages
You tore yourself free, like a pebble on the shore as the ocean rages
You let the let the darkness out and undid all the cages
And left the book of our future, ending with nothing but empty pages
