Sleek Red Cadillac
Sleek Red Cadillac
by Peter Moring and Lou Marshall Gould
I saw a woman I know so well
she was like a vixen in the moonlit street
She tried to blame it all on me
and like a chump I took all the heat
We parted ways in a downtown taxicab
I went gamblin' in Chicago's red lit underworld
'cause I was feelin' just so bad
Luck was with me but it came with a high price
so easily said
I won a heep of greenback money
playin' poker and throwin' dead end dice
kept thinkin' about my honey
trapped in this world
of southside Chicago vice
I swore the next time I'd meet her
would be in my sleek red Cadillac
with a little bit of flash and diamond style
i'll win that redhead back
Her long red hir will be flyin' in the wind
and I hope that god will forgive me
for this deadly mortal sin
You see, I made a bargain with the devil
in that raucous players club
between the green felt table
and a Johnny Walker Black Lable Scotch
and I knew the devil wouldn't settle
for less than eternity
I thought I had the mettle
but it was all vanity
She was a red head vixen in Chicago moonlight
and I was a chump
who's takin' all the heat
