I have closed the book
That tied us together

Every sentence lingers down my cheek
I was unfair to re-read an old one

Both books are lovely in their own ways
But I have missed that one

Just the touch and how it feels
In my heart in my head while I read it

Again and again

So I closed a book looking forward
To begin an old one that I haven't
Got to the end with just yet

The end of an era
Near a new year with new pages
