A Dream

The half hour is braking in,
The midnight sun is striking,
The sound of dreams bursting,
The sound of someone waking,

The calm before the storm,
After rain comes sunshine,

Silhouettes against the horizon,
And the devil comes running
Comes screaming
Comes crying for your protection,

Jaguars and tigers, pumas and snakes,
Oaks and redwood, silent lambs,

Crows are flying so are the brains of the padre tonight,
As he told the widow, he’d be there for her,
Big Mistake,
Now he’s waiting at the pearly gate
Knocking, pounding and hollering
“SET ME FREE!”

All of this you’ve seen in a dream?
Says the shrink to his patient,
Whatever stopped you from not diving off that cliff?
He continues,
Well, here’s some Prozac to ease your mind,
And some Stilnoct to help you sleep at night,
I’d lay off the booze if I were you.

The hour is over, he pays - leave the room,
Comes back same time next week.
