A Promise of Tragedy

She was madly in love
With a man belonging to none.
Her one true love.
This is how her story begun.

She asked the midnight moon
To grant her a wish.
The man of her dreams
Forever she would cherish.

The moon gave her
Grace of a swan
And beauty of an angel.
Her fear was now gone.

Her deepest desire
Finally came true.
But the cost of her want
She never knew.

Had she known what secrets lie
Beneath the veil of shadows spread.
She would’ve chosen to die
Than to see what waits ahead.

For each passing day
She grew more hollow.
Until that one dreadful day
When all was gone but sorrow.

Not knowing what to do
She sought comfort in the night.
Where her promising moon
Would guide her with its light.

But the treacherous moon
Told her to choose:
Life of her love or life of her own.
One which she had to lose.

She then made a promise
To stay under the veil.
To protect her love
She could not fail.

Her beauty and grace
Were all that remained.
As the midnight dancer
She was now chained.
