City of fallen dreams

If I sit down and think a happy thought,
And never see a sad and frosty night;
I could never believe the dream I sought,
Would ever slip out of this haunted sight,
If you kicked me out of my well lit sleep;
I would lean right back into the cold fire,
And shiver as it burned its brand in deep;
As you would for sure call it “dear sire”:
Shall you compare me to a blind mad man;?
I am far more perceptive and balanced,
But these eyes have outlived their dear life-span,
And the dream forever crushed and silenced:
This unbalanced veil covers me, therefore,
Light of day my dreams will see, nevermore
