You were dead and alone,
Buried underneath the earth,
Nothing left of what once was you.
Was your spirit free, did you see
Me here, lying above your grave?
Digging like insane, to get to your
Bones, the only truth that I could feel,
The only life that I knew.
Could you see how I held your bones
In my arms? How I caressed them,
Held them, cried for them? Felt
my life slipping away with them?
Loving, for the first time?

Honey, they told me I was being mean,
Mad, but I think I gave you a glimpse
Of my morbid, true self.
