R: for Leora Kahn

She Wrote About Things I'd Rather Forget

She wrote about things
people would rather forget
that I would rather forget
wars
and women behind doors
whose stories were
shamed by the exploiters
of strife
children from whose youth
was stolen by the realities
of human behavior at its
deepest depth
and who were orphaned
and in refugee camps left

Will tomorrow bring a sunrise
well that's for sure
but how can we help those
who need it the most
what's the cure
some money we send
and that is the end
as we hide behind our
newspapers and make
breakfast toast
drink our coffee and
fresh squeezed juice
and believe that we
are fair in our trade
and numb to others who God
and Men
have placed in harm's way...

Thank you, it is so realistic and the poetry is catching, i like the lines:"Will tomorrow bring a sunrise
well that's for sure
but how can we help those
who need it the most"
