From Baalbek to Des Moines

I'm on Death Row now
spinning a silvery coin
I've tarnished every vow
from Baalbek to Des Moines

Age allows majestic views,
I take my time to look,
amazed at all those colourful hues
Growing old is all it took

Some folks I've known are still alive,
but lots have lost their way,
the unborn waiting to arrive,
the dead are tucked away

I'm on Death Row now
spinning a silvery coin
I've tarnished every vow
from Baalbek to Des Moines

My words are dry, my thoughts too stale,
each day a Shakespeare play
I hear the foghorn's holy wail
on Chesapeake's choppy bay

Am I made from Pinocchio wood
or am I here for real?
Who hides beneath this pulled-up hood;
are those the feelings that I feel?

I'm on Death Row now
spinning a silvery coin
I've tarnished every vow
from Baalbek to Des Moines

The ones I meet just brush me by,
however close they seem
Each shiny truth may be a lie,
all good deeds might be mean

All my belongings stand around,
prepare to stand alone,
till cleaners throw them in a mound,
and I'm off to atone

I'm on Death Row now
spinning a silvery coin
I've tarnished every vow
from Baalbek to Des Moines

The morning breaks across the land,
but I've lost half my mind
Most memories seep into the sand
I've left myself behind

My breath breathes in my aftermath
My eyes look deep inside
I sense the end of Corpus Path,
hollowness far and wide

I'm on Death Row now
spinning a silvery coin
I've tarnished every vow
from Baalbek to Des Moines
