you start out on high

and then you fall

fast really fast

'till the inevitable "thump"

at the very bottom

and then…

you do it all over again

and again and again

cause you think

one of these days

the "thump" won't show

to take away that crumb you cling to

as though hope is a tangible thing

and, oh… I know my "thump" will always be

I just can't fathom a better way

lather, rinse, repeat… you know…

maybe some day

maybe some day I'll fail

and my "thump" will seize to be

… I wish I could hope to believe

this could be a true possibility
