This sonnet was written as an exercise in an american on-line writing-class that I take part in. It´s about a woman who is in labour, and about to give birth to a child. Through her thoughts she "talks" to the child.

The Butterfly. / A sonnet.

So infinitely near you are, my love
a cocoon, spun by a breath from the sun;
a nest for my playful whispering dove
harbor and home for a grain on the run.

Now please pardon me my impudent prayer
but when the time has come for us to meet,
could I draw the curtain with all its layers
hug and kiss beyond all masks of conceit?

Though I can hardly stand the pain you give
and your pure appearance just makes me scream;
loves labour toils a miracle to live
so unique, yet part of our common stream.

Like a seal you breathe by my feeding breast;
love´s the seal that my butterfly will crest

Lovely written by a
male pen who seems
to know what labour
a "birthgiving" woman
goes throgh ... .. .
