A draft of you

You crafted yourself like a résumé, before you said ”hello”.
You canceled your plans, to spend the evenings on my couch.
You broke your piggy bank, to buy me flowers for Valentine’s.
You pushed through extra gym sessions, to impress the already impressed me.
You unraveled your secrets, placed your trust in my hands.

Still, you discarded it all…

My soul glowed for you, as the fire crackled in our fireplace.
I was special rather than a homewrecker, when your gaze held only me.
Keeping us a secret for so long, must have been a sign of something in the making.
But all I made of it, were echoes of my lonely heart.
You attacked me by running away, leaving me defeated in tears.
Salt in my wound, after you got away so easily.
She must be exceptional, as I remember you saying blondes bore you.
You’re living the time of your lives, while I’m a crumpled page in your bin.

But one beautiful day, when you rush to her house with an engagement ring, I’ll pray for a thunder to strike you down.
I’ll toss a coin in Rome, wishing for flames to chase your jeep, on your honeymoon in Australia.
I’d shoot her horse, letting you both crash headfirst, and lose your memories of each other.

I may be the witch casting curses, while you’re the saint, shaking your head.
Yet, somehow, forgiving you feels more like sainthood than sin.

My “I love you” fades with time, as we remain strangers.
I’d drain my savings on Lacuna, just to erase you a little faster.
Sometimes I imagine you standing outside my door, but she appears hand in hand with you, whenever I pass a blue-eyed girl on the street.
She may have everything you wanted, though I bet you miss how tight our nights were, craving a second round.

But I have to toss us away, like a crumpled draft.
Burn it all, let the ashes scatter with the wind.
And save my hellos for a man, who will cherish himself, and me.
