She Sleeps and Dreams

She lies in her bed

Insecure sheets pulled up to her chin

door double locked to keep out the night

windows painted black to keep out the light

the shadows outside

pay no heed to her need

and she sleeps

she sleeps and dreams

She dreams of painted men

who kick in doors and smash black windows

light like hands

crawls across the floor

pulls the sheets away

to expose desire

young, and firm, and strong

and naked

the bed becomes a ship of truth

her voyage of discovery

of lust

of love

of hate

of sex

of death

of life

and then she wakes

door intact

windows black

the painted men are no-where to be seen.
