Under this broken sun

we improvised, threw all the cards down
tied them to copper wires
and like dragons of the east
with every breath we breathed, they flew higher

you could see emeralds in the fields
i could see gold veins in your skin
you'd always laugh when i played your hair
you were the oath i'd swear and a mirror of everything

on the night of the glimmering lights
she set fire to the totem pole
and whispered: 'Remember this,
it's not what you'll long to miss, it's what i stole

i'm falling over backwards
but at least i get to see the sky
eternity has barely begun
and under this broken sun i lost my place to lie
