A text about open minds and watchful minds. Inspired by the fact that the emisssions of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere continues to increase. Also, the very positive development in that more than 600.000 people all over the world marched for more force

Shields and Sails.

First singer: Citizens of this lovely pulsing star, good friends, brothers and sisters! We have gathered here this day on a certain purpose, a purpose that for each day that slips between our fingers, passes by and diminishes, has become the more urgent: to forge a shield of such refined strength and exquisite quality that it enables us to protect us from ourselves.

The choir: make and forge and bend it strong, our craft will turn it all into a solid piece of golden bronze!

Second singer: a most pressing need, yes it is, indeed. To rise up and speak free and clear our minds relieve to see our fears, if necessary dimmed by tears; to turn them around and then inside out, to caress each mask to sense the contours of a face and then to meet...the eyes.

The choir: a shield so bright and clear; its fruits and seeds are there for us to gently tend if we allow ourselves its soil to mend.

Third singer: at first we have to found this steady ground, this precoius shield of golden bronze, then walk and drive upon its soil, free in mind yet firm at hand.

The choir: yes move and drive with outmost care as if surrounded by a heavy mist, yet, as if we were in the very midst, of a boundless fair.

Fourth singer: then talk and listen with an open mind and ask, about just anything, that makes you wonder and things that you might not understand.

The choir: now listen, talk and ponder then let it all rest and grow in a sense of wonder.

Fifth singer: so let our thoughts go back and forth in a cocoon of humor and good will, and when someone presents a different view-within civilized and resonable limits-it´s not a threat, it´s a thrill-an opportunity to weigh and measure between the hand and the eye, things discovered through a newfound angle, things that make you curious and things that make you say: hi, com´on, give me a hand, I got some stuff here that needs to be untangled.

The choir: yes forge that shield of golden bronze to guard against our faults and wrongs; open minds and warmth at hart give steady hands that seldom fails, and that´s, that´s when Nike´s wings will fill our sails.

So this is my first piece of music for choir and solo singers. The only thing missing is, the music, the composer, the choir and the singers. Anyone interested, please send a message.
Good articles about the subject: Dagens Nyheter, september the 23rd, p 12-13, Maria Gunther and Martin Gelin.
Yes, that`s right, I borrowed the idea with the shield from Homer´s The Iliad.
