I wish that I could help you;

just to brighten up your day.

just so I could hear you say
that life despite its hardships
was worth your while to stay.

I wish that I could wander
with you through leafy lane
talk about the weather,
walk there and back again.
I wish by this you´d get to know
that another can feel your worth
without the need to wonder
“whose son is this by birth”.

I wish that I could show you
that love will come your way,
not when you most desire it,
but when you least have sway.
I wish that I could see you
through glasses pink in hue.
I wish that your life was simple
that lovers were always true.

I wish the wide blue yonder
wasn´t so very far away,
that sadness was a stranger
and that you were here to stay.
I wish, I wish upon a star,
the one that others guides
that I didn´t see inside you
and feel your feelings tides.

I wish one day I´d meet you;
On a beach, in a book, on a hill...
so “knowing” and “understanding”
be words with sweeter thrill.
I wish for you a lighter day,
where you and yours find strength
to hold on to each other
and “we” stops being past tense
