The tale of a night

In a way it all began with a hand
Or a handshake
It depends on the perspective

I was sitting down
She was standing
It felt like it should have been the other way around

She told me her name
And all I heard was starlight falling to the floor

So that might have been the start
Her hand in mine, her name in my heart
Or maybe the true beginning came later

She drank sparkling white wine
She wanted to become a model
How much of a cliché is that?
But what does that make me
Sitting opposite her with a glass of the same wine
Smiling at her dreams
Telling her that she'll make it big

I made some generic joke
She laughed and took my hand
Smiling through her lashes
She told me it was the funniest thing she'd ever heard

I loved the lie
And I loved lying to myself
Thinking that maybe, just maybe
Things could be magical for once
Easy

That's when she said it:
'This game we are playing, it's fun. But we both know, we're losing darkness and I want to take your heart'
That was probably the real beginning

My heart in her hands
Her hands in mine

But on the other hand
It never started
I never spoke to her again
And she never stole my heart

It was the first time I regretted not losing something precious in a haze of alcohol and euphoria. My heart would have been better off in her hands than it is in my chest.
