A poem.
Embraced
I took the words
you gave me
and put them
in my hand
letter by
letter revealing
the colors of your
face -
I took your words
and sat them aside
then I went out for
a walk -
the sun shone
bright that day
and all I had left
was the letter 'I'
it stood for you
and 'I' -
at least that's what
I'd like to think
now that you are
gone -
the colors of your
face - embracing
each word - each
sentence -
All that's left is the
trace of your voice
silencing my mind -
I close my eyes and
lean back on the bench -
'with me you're safe
with me you're in
the sunshine - even
when it rains'
They said it sounded
like a cliché - and they
might be right - but to
me it only sounds -
like the honest words
of a friend - a lover
and companion -
I took the words
you gave me
and put them
in my hand
embracing
each word
- each sentence
words put aside
as I went out for
a walk -
the sun shone
bright that day
and all I had left
was the letter 'I'
it stood for you
and 'I' -
They said it sounded
like a cliché- and they
might be right -
- to me it only sounds -
like the colors of an honest face
like the sometimes
so sweet embrace
- of life itself
