The raven and the butterfly (2008.02.17)

He calls. His voice - so sharp, soft, dark and soothing. He calls and she rests behind the thick walls of silence that shimmer with fragments of memories from the past. She shuts the windows to the soul, keeping the rain of tears locked inside. She shuts the windows to the soul and huddles up in the corner of her mind.
The cry of a raven seeking its goal. He keeps calling for her, his voice grows stronger and the distance between them seems to be closing in. A raven, a man, a shadow or simply another human being wishing to find some warmth. But I am cold, she thinks to herself. He will not find warmth in my embrace. They shut me out in the snow - and snowflakes are what my soul devoured. Would you ever kiss the mouth that is tainted with melancholy and covered with frost?
She does not dare to open her eyes. Feeling the wing beats of the raven, she draws a deep breath and starts to sing as a faint smile plays an accompanying symphony of rain and fire upon the fields of her lips. Ravens do not eat butterflies, she thinks to herself, and yet my song shall force the raven to take flight once more.

He watches her sing, and as he takes a seat next to her he starts to sing with the woman, following her voice and letting his mind wander. Can she feel his invisible embrace? He does not dare touching her; the wings of a butterfly are fragile. One mistake and she will fly away. One mistake and she will become entangled in the web of a chaotic mind, to be devoured by her own inner spider and he will never be able to reach her. I would embrace you if I could, he thinks to himself as she grows silent, trembling lightly as if she is cold. I would warm you if I could, but all I dare using are my words and my song.

She hopes to see him leave. To leave her, to let her become encased with ice. However, the words that she utters fall down to the surface of the earth, like stars falling from the sky, straight into the palm of his hand.
“Please don’t leave me.”
Suddenly she feels the raven’s feathers caress her cheek. Warmth. He will walk away, just like everyone else. Never trust, never tell. Never speak and always smile, for that is what they ask of you. All of them.
“Why would I leave you?”
He watches her sob, still with his fingertips gently caressing her face.
“I don’t know”, she whispers and slowly shakes her head, firmly keeping the tears locked away. “I don’t know anything.”
“I have no reason to leave you behind.”
“I’m not like everyone else.”
“And that’s the reason as to why I still talk with you and always will listen.”

But ravens do not eat butterflies, she repeats to herself as the raven, the man, or the shadow takes her face in his hands and kisses her eyelids, caressing her mind and singing with her trembling soul.

He calls. His voice - so sharp, soft, dark and soothing. He calls and crushes the walls to her silence, to the torment. Slowly the eyelids wander, only for her to meet the look of the raven. The raven, the man, the shadow or just another human being searching for some warmth, some compassion, like a moth searching for a source of light in the darkness. A smile appears on her face and the thin layer of ice around her heart begins to melt as she embraces him and drowns in his arms.
Maybe a raven and a butterfly can fly together, even if the strongest wind tries to carry the butterfly away. Maybe they both can find some peace of mind in a world that shatters before their eyes. To build a nest of friendship, of understanding, in which they can rest in silence or entwined in words.

Vilken underbar text! speciellt sista stycket.. jag tolkar det som två så olika varelser (symboliskt kanske två personer) kan hitta ett samspel och förståelse sins emellan..
Helt underbart!
