Cricket, the tomboy. A new kid in town, bullying, gender issues, parenthood and a friendship that's totally blind to anything than itself.

She's not a girl!

-"She's not a girl! She's my friend!" said the little boy angrily, his hands now out of his pockets, -"and if she can't play, then I don't want to either!" he finished, stomping away in anger, grabbing hold of Cricket on the way.
And for once, Cricket allowed him to, still in awe of him choosing her over the other boys.

Out of earshot, around the corner and further still, he finally stopped. Letting go of Cricket and started pacing about, muttering over the others. One of his laces came undone but he didn't notice, he was still too upset.

Cricket watched him pace, amused at the sight, whilst slowly sitting down with her back against a warm shop's wall. The sun was at it's peak and it was hot. She fancied a drink, a cool fizzy one. The boy looked like a fizzy drink to her, almost rising over the edge. The sight amused her even more and she started smiling.

Seeing Cricket grinning at him made him halt, hands to the waist and he asked fretfully -"What are you smiling at?" -"You look like a coke about to burst" she replied and rapidly added -"and your lace is undone."
He bent down and asked whilst tying his shoe -"What do we do now?"
-"You tell me, I'm the new kid remember? Where can we go and be sure the others won't?" Cricket ignored his hand and helped herself up.
