The white crowd shouts abuse at the slaves
who tried to escape during the night but were caught
and are now hanging from chains on the square
The first stone has already been cast
'Flog the slaves' the crowd spit and roar
Fl- og the slaves, the crowd looks round, cut short
at the clapping sound of horse hooves on cobbled streets
and liberation forces that move in to surround them
The slaves are freed and given aid
as the crowd replace their places
and their heads are hung in shame
The former slaves look at them in pity and leave
the town, its oppressive air and find long sought freedom
The town crowd hang in chains a day and a half
and are then finally released, a few more human
some less so and others unchanged
but the town of slavery broke its chains
and slowly with increments year after year
racism turned to stone and equality gained hold
and today the town remembers the years of shame
and lets it stay there in history
as a lesson, not to be repeated
