..what you wish to keep must be set free ..only then may it decide to stay..

Keeping Love Alive

You cannnot keep a butterfly alive inside a jar,

or break its flight or ever touch its wing.

If you love it, let it be to flitter near and far;

its beauty and its flight,

like passions of the night,

will free your mind and teach your heart to sing.

I can't blossom, or be awesome, if I'm tied and bound.

I simply want to be the best of me.

If you love me, let me wear my freedom as a gown;

a dress that's sheer and swirls,

adorned with trusting pearls,

a message of pure love and unity.

Meningsfulla rader om de omständigheter som krävs för att vi skall komma till vår rätt, "blomma ut", "sjunga vår sång" eller "finna det rätta uttrycket". Den fria fjärilen som bild för friheten.

Aah. Brage is deeply moved. Thank you. I dare not tread the singing, glittering elvenpath of this delightful feminine poetry by trying to comment on its words, should i (o, the horror!) in my crude manly manners stumble on its highly etherical finetuned melodies of expression. Let me then just share a short note of association. JRR Tolkien (according to his son) had two strong driving forces in giving life to the wonderful worlds and rhymes of Middle Earth: The atmosphere surrounding Maria, the mother of Christ (Tolkien was a devout catholic), and a strong antipathy towards any coercion of the free will of man. In this "coercion of the will" he saw the light die, life fade, women enslaved and men become tyrants. It is represented in his writings mainly by The Ring of Power.
