"There's something mysterious about you!"
A somewhat elderly gentleman approached me saying this at National Gallery in London. This was back in 1984.

"Yes" I said, looking him steadily in the eyes, "I was a witch in my former life!" holding my laughter back.

You should have seen his face! He just didn't know what to say. Totally mute! I'll never forget it. Thank you, my dear Muse! You're never mute.

He went on to another room. And I went out to find my companion. Puffing his dear briar pipe, my lover listened to this little tale, smiling cunningly.

"Yes, mysterious even to me!" he said. But he had a good laugh too. By then we had been together for almost 10 years.
