I'm watching the news and it crosses my mind
How so many people appear to be blind
And looking out on the streets, it's a shame
But everywhere it is only the same
Cities and countries are falling apart
And I wonder if someone knew why from the start
The soldiers who fire and then turn to run
Is the reason to do it the same for each one?
Politicians, they argue and I don't understand
Do they really want what is best for this land?
Or is their purpose only to gain
Some power because they just like to reign?
Far away, they scratch their living from stone and wall
While, here, some are trying to eat nothing at all
For you need to stay slim and eating's a sin
You have to be beautiful - just to fit in
Our wish is to live a whole century though
But we'd hate it for anyone to see it came true
It doesn't quite matter if you just stay alive
- You have to be forty, but look twenty-five
And ideals surround us - yes, hear me now say:
Whether man or a woman, there are rules to obey
And a sexless person is not of this earth
Why, your gender is known from your moment of birth!
Words there are always - just listen and hark
How they put us in groups and deliver their mark:
A punk is a person who dresses in rags
And gay is a synonym for lesbians and fags
A man is a white guy with job and a wife
And immigrants rob you, so run for your life
The very last line of this poem you may
Want to call plagiarism - and that is ok
For it is someone else's right through and through
But still I would like to give it to you
For it is the truth and the message is plain:
It does take a fool to just remain sane
